Art of the zoo pictures
Art of the zoo pictures. When we think of zebras, we think of black-striped animals that are very similar to horses in appearance. While the term zebra might also make us think of zebra crossings utilized in many countries around the world, zebras remain some of the most popular animal species in the world. Native mostly to Africa, zebras are long-lived animals that have never been domesticated, unlike their closest relatives, horses and donkeys.
If you look at zebra pictures, you can definitely see that, despite their striking resemblance, not all zebra species look the same. While some have larger strips, others have larger heads and shorter members. There are three main species of zebras: Grevy’s zebras, plains zebras, and mountain zebras. Although all species haves stripes on forequarters that form a triangular pattern, only Gravy’s zebras have a similar pattern on the hindquarters, and others have a horizontal or slanted pattern.
As for the natural habitats of zebras, plains zebras, also known as Burchell’s zebras, inhabit mostly savannas, from open woodlands to grasslands. On the other hand, Gravy’s zebras are mainly restricted in some areas of northern Kenya, and due to being adapted to semi-arid conditions that require less water, they still suffer a lot due to poaching.
Probably one of the most interesting aspects relating to zebras is their outstanding behavior in herds. Family groups have very strong bonds that are further encouraged by mutual grooming, where zebras stay together and nibble the hair on their necks and backs. What’s more, family members look out for one another if one of them accidentally gets separated from the rest of the herd. When traveling, the group will adjust its pace to conveniently accommodate both the old and the weak.
Zebra females have a strict hierarchical system. The dominant mares will always lead the group, whereas the other females will closely follow her, with their foals right behind them. The lowest-ranking mare will be the last in the line. Even though the stallion is the dominant member of the family, he has no special place in the line and he usually operates outside of the hierarchical system.
Most zebra photos depict these animals in various poses that present them in their natural habitat. Although they travel a lot in herds, they are typically easy to photograph due to standing in the same place for longer periods of time throughout the course of the day. It is really fascinating to see these zoo animals interacting with other members of their group – which is why we provided a number of amazing zebra photos for your entertainment.
Gorillas
Although they are commonly referred to as a monkey species, gorillas are one of the four species of great apes that are closely linked by DNA to humans. Different from typical monkeys, gorillas are much larger in size, tend to stay upright for longer periods of time, do not have brains, and also have larger, much developed brains.
Whenever we see a photo of a gorilla, we can observe the striking resemblance these zoo animals bear to humans sometimes. With arms that are longer than their legs, gorillas walk on all four members at certain times, although they are used to staying in upright positions for longer times. As expected of these large apes, gorillas’ diet include fruits, vines, laves, roots and shoots, despite the common rumor that they only eat bananas.
Not surprisingly, gorillas are ground-dwelling, and they usually live in groups of 6-12, with the largest males (called silverbacks) leading families of females. Similar to human families, the silverback is the one to take decisions in regard to when the group eats, wakes up, moves, and rests at night. Moreover, silverbacks tend to be the most aggressive of the entire group due to his responsibility of protecting his family. In threatening situations, the silverback will beat his chest and charge at the perceived enemy, sometimes even raging or producing specific noises.
But although they might seem dangerous, gorillas are still shy animals that like human companionship. They are oftentimes seen behaving similar to humans in certain ways, which can make them wonderful to watch in their natural habitat. All gorilla wallpapers we have chosen depict these zoo animals in various poses that make them look very human-like – and they are sure to warm your heart once you see them!
